2013, A year of change!

Well here it is. New Years Day 2014! This past year has been a fun and adventurous year for me, from moving from Lethbridge to Calgary, and then back and forth visiting Saskatchewan. I've been a lucky guy, having met new and special people, getting back in touch with older friends, travelling a fair bit, and generally just mucking about…lol.

My selection of images are not necessarily my favourite ones technically, but mostly have a very special meaning to me, and stories behind them. I was limiting myself to about ten or so images, but then I thought it might not do the year any justice, as it's the many memories for me, not the quantity! I have purposely not included certain people or stories for privacy concerns, but they know who they are ;) All I'd like to say is I'm happy, happy, happy…LOL

John Fujimagari and I put together a photowalk at the Calgary Zoo this past spring and it was a fun day out. We had a bunch of great people turn up for a perfect day out. The sun was shining, and we walked around the Zoo getting in as many areas that time would allow. The penguins were a hit with many people, as they let them walk about in public, and you could get up close. This Gentoo Penguin was in the enclosure and the crowds had subsided somewhat later that afternoon, so it was a good opportunity to get up close.

Another great workshop was held by the fine folks from Oopoomoo.com at Bragg Creek, AB this spring. Here's a group shot at the Persistent Vision Seminar on Saturday morning :)

I was lucky to have the opportunity to go to Cuba for the first time. I love to travel and see other cultures and not just hang out at resorts all day. I would rather be around the people that make the places what they are. I met some great people down there, and saw a lot of things you see and never see in the tourist brochures..!

Getting a chance to visit my niece Jaimie and her husband Dani in Banff is a rarity, but I'm glad I had some time to catch up with them. Jaimie and I had a great time travelling through Banff and the area beyond finding things to photograph :)

The IRIS 2013 Lilac Festival workshop, held each May, was a fun day with group leaders Peter, Royce and Ian leading the way. It was all about story-telling with images, and these next couple of images really popped out for me :)

Mum and I decided to head to Elbow Falls in Kananaskis Country west of town. We enjoyed the day out, and by pure luck the group from Aquabatics.com were out playing in the deep water!

Here's a shot of our trip on the way to a vintage motorcycle rally (friends Tim and Steve)… We took a Suzuki 750 water-cooled triple, a Kawasaki 900, and a Fatbob Harley from Leader down to the beautiful little town of Gravelbourg Saskatchewan. It was about 400kms away, and the weekend turned out fantastic!

More images of Saskatchewan as I travelled around :)

CMRO Mud Bog Racing in Kindersley, SK.

Spiritwood, SK. These images where taken at the local park, in this beautiful town.

East of Eatonia, SK. in the fog just off the highway.

Back in Calgary again, and I was able to get together with John one more time before the end of the year. We headed downtown to get some shots of the skyline, and also the Wonderland sculpture outside the Bow Tower.

Well that's about it for now! It's on to bigger and better things for 2014, and my resolutions are to keep learning and growing throughout the year, trying new ideas, and maybe make some big changes!! To all my friends and family, I wish you all the very best for 2014… Make this YOUR year!!
